25 years of passion on two wheels – From freeride pioneer to content creator

Who am I and what defines me?

Hi, I'm Stephan, a content creator by profession, and I've been mountain biking for exactly 25 years. It all started with the first Kranked and New World Disorder films — freeriding was a topic from the very beginning. Eventually, I ended up racing and, through a roundabout way, landed at Mountainbike Rider Magazine. I was the deputy editor-in-chief there for seven years and made my living from mountain biking. In 2017, I founded the lifeCYCLE Magazine with a friend, which focuses on gravel, bikepacking, and sustainability. So, I'm not only on the mountain bike a lot, but also on the gravel bike. Platzangst has been with me for over 10 years now, and I'm happy that in recent years I've not only been a Collective rider but also implemented numerous photo and video productions for the brand.

From Whistler to Winterberg: Stephan is living the dream on the bike

Racing or cycling?
Cycling! Racing is fun, but I love the time on the bike. After an injury, I stopped racing to focus entirely on enjoying it.

Best biking experience?
Whistler was a highlight, as were the first Whip Offs at the iXS Dirt Masters Festival in Winterberg. I'm especially proud of my son Luke, who is following in my footsteps.

Gravel or mountain bike?
Mountain bike – a light enduro would be my favorite because it's versatile. But owning different bikes remains a dream.

What are you proud of?
My hobby is my profession. Whether it's content creation, photo or video productions – it rarely feels like work.

Tip for young talents:
Have fun and take it easy! Without joy and passion, you'll never truly excel. Work on yourself, but leave out the pressure – it's the biggest enemy of success.
